Belmond Reid's Palace
An iconic escape on the edge of the Atlantic
Set in verdant gardens overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Belmond Reid's Palace is the ultimate place to stretch out in the sun and relax. Over the years this luxury hideaway has honed the art of pampering, earning a reputation as one of the best hotels in Funchal
Suites are named after George Bernard Shaw, who learnt to tango here, and Winston Churchill, who came to write his memoirs. Step out onto your balcony or patio for an intimate dinner beneath indigo skies. Linger over lagoon views or vistas of Funchal harbour from sumptuous surrounds. Belmond Reid's Palace is perfection in the Portuguese archipelago.
ROOMS & SUITES
Belmond Reid's Palace has over 158 rooms and suites which are split up into different types.
The hypnotic light of Madeira pours into our enchanting rooms, each a relaxing oasis with its own balcony or patio. Contemporary comfort is paired with antique-style flourishes in our rooms, which offer unforgettable views of the Atlantic Ocean or our gardens.
Classic Rooms, perched above Funchal Bay, enjoy partial sea views, as well as dark wood furniture, floral drapes and inviting cream linens.
Our Superior Rooms, dressed in delicate pastel shades, exude serenity. The balcony or patio is perfect for alfresco dining as you soak up the scenery.
Our expansive Deluxe Rooms boast unparalleled views of the sparkling ocean or verdant gardens. All rooms offer marble bathrooms and king-size or twin beds.
Relaxing sanctuaries with ample space to unwind, our suites blend timeless charm with contemporary comfort. Junior Suites, decorated in tranquil hues to complement the sea and garden views from your balcony or terrace, can be interconnected for even more space.
Named after our distinguished former guests, the Churchill Suite and the George Bernard Shaw Suite offer understated luxury and sublime comfort. Unwind in light-filled spaces with lofty ceilings, rich woods, hand-painted wallpapers and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows. Admire beautiful Portuguese tiles in the generous bathrooms, elegant antiques and plush furnishings throughout. Feel the gentle sea breeze waft through your windows.
Geologically dramatic, bursting with exotic colour and warmed year-round by the Atlantic sun, Portugal’s most enchanting island is a place that keeps all its subtropical holiday promises. Pearl of the Atlantic, island of eternal spring…Madeira well deserves its fanciful nicknames and the affection visitors and locals alike feel for this tiny volcanic island that offers so much.
Repeatedly voted Europe's, and even the world's, top island destination, Madeira is a diverse place when it comes to holidaymaking. Black sand beaches, the frothing Atlantic, towering rock walls and gushing streams and irrigation channels make this an outdoor nirvana. But it's also a place of gentler pleasures such as wine tasting, visiting lush botanical gardens and watching embroiderers and wicker weavers at work.
Hiking the levada irrigation channels is the top activity, with tens of thousands pulling on hiking boots to discover Madeira's secret interior.
FUN & RELAXATION
Our majestic gardens, planted over a century ago, boast abundant sub-tropical species. Bougainvillea, aloe vera, bird of paradise blooms and palms make it a plant-lover’s paradise. Twice a week, join an expert horticulturalist for a guided stroll and an insight into the island’s native flora.
Our three luxurious pools give you ample space to spread out. Two are filled with seawater, two are heated. Wander down to our tidal pool, right next to the Atlantic. For an exhilarating dip in the sea, plunge in from our platform.
Keep fit with Technogym’s state-of-the-art machines, which include innovative cardiovascular, strength and functional training equipment. There is also a sauna and steam room to unwind after intensive workouts.
Out & About
For exhilarating adventures, Madeira excels. The third-highest mountain, Pico do Areiro, is an impressive 1,818 metres high, yet in a 4x4 jeep we can drive you all the way to the top. Above the clouds, you’ll watch the sun rise, illuminating crimson-tinged panoramas. You’ll then sit down to a breakfast of fresh pastries, succulent fruits and champagne, served by a personal butler.
