Troodos Mountains, Cyprus
Casale Panayiotis guest accommodation is dispersed throughout the sleepy village of Kalopanayiotis, deep in the beautiful countryside of the Marathasa valley, away from the crowds. All our rooms open directly to the great outdoors, with no internal hotel corridors. All facilities including reception, restaurants and spa can be accessed from the outside, with no need to use an elevator during your stay.
John Papadouris spent decades working abroad only to return to his disappearing and neglected village in Cyprus. After raising funds and investing his own money, he’s driving a restoration project to preserve a culture and connection with the past in his mountain village, Kalopanayiotis.
The ancient spa village of Kalopanayitois has for centuries attracted visitors and pilgrims, and in more recent history was a community built around agriculture, the land and cottage industries. However, the 20th century experienced a drain, as people left their villages to find work in cities and abroad.
Now with 41 guest rooms in 7 houses across the village, as well as cafés and restaurants, villagers have been inspired to invest in their own community, restoring their homes and opening small businesses, preserving our mountain culture and way of life.
To the future, there are many projects in full swing - all related to reinstating the way of life and connection to the land that was lost during difficult times. Vineyards are being re-established, orchards regenerated and historic buildings restored.
For one of these unique experiences, there aren't many places that come with their own orchard yard. The valley region of Marathasa supplies Casale Panayiotis with their fresh fruit, and you'll get a chance to pick your own basket!
Marathasa is famed for its cherries, almonds, apples and pears; trees that require a cooler climate than the searing heat found elsewhere in Cyprus. The high, north-facing slopes of the Marathasa valley are ideal.
If you're looking for something more culture related, then the Kykkos Monastery is worth an explore - The richest and most lavishly adorned monastery in Cyprus is just a half-hour drive away in an isolated spot in the middle of the Paphos forest.
The monastery is home to one of only three icons attributed to St Luke and the first president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III served here as a novice. Don't miss the impressive on-site museum.
For the more adventurous, there is the opportunity to abseil into the Marathasa Valley - Experienced instructors will guide you. Suitable for beginners or experienced rock climbers.
Outside of the hotel, Paphos has a wide range of places and experiences for you to test out. It goes without mention that if you are in Cyprus, you must try Meze dishes, these consist roughly of 20-30 small dishes of various foods, such as meats, fruit, olives, vegetables etc, which is guaranteed to fill up even the hungriest.

Our aim is to make your stay as safe and enjoyable as possible. As such, we have spared no effort to reduce the risk of infection and will be adopting a range of new measures to achieve this.
We have introduced a new Pandemic Management Team who have been fully briefed by our professional Health and Safety Consultants. This team is responsible for ensuring that all our employees are fully conversant with the new measures. All staff have been trained in the most effective hygeine procedures to use during their working hours and they have been provided with the correct PPE for their duties; all in accordance with WHO guidelines and national advice.
As a precautionary measure, all our front-line employees have been tested for Covid-19.
New procedures in the common areas: All areas of Casale Panayiotis will be thoroughly sprayed before the opening on 19th June. Hand sanitising gels will be placed at the entrance to all common areas, including restaurant, reception, elevator doors and public washrooms. Distance markers will be placed in the appropriate areas to remind guests of the required distance for effective social distancing. All door handles, tables and surfaces will be deep-cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.
New Check-in procedures. We have established a new reception area which will optimise social distancing at check-in. Check-in is fully automated and completely free of pen and paper. Guests will check-in using a tablet, which will be disinfected as it is given to the guest.
New Room hygiene procedures. The door to your room will be sealed with a ribbon before you enter, to reassure you that you will be the first to enter the room after it has been cleaned. Daily housekeeping will now be on-demand only, and will take place whilst you are out enjoying the fresh air or dining in our outdoors restaurant. The mini-bar will be fully stocked at check-in and only be refilled at your request. The housekeeping team are trained to ensure that your room is fully sanitised at each clean. All air-conditioners have been chemically cleaned.
New Restaurant procedures. We encourge eating all meals outdoors. All indoor restaurant areas will be subject to additional safety measures. We have re-organised our table layouts to offer the maximum space between tables. Cutlery and crockery will be sterlised and set on the table at the time that the guest arrives, to ensure everything is freshly clean. Breakfast will be served either outdoors to your table, or in luxurious breakfast baskets brought directly to your room to enjoy in total privacy.
We apologise for any inconvenience these additional measures may cause during your stay, but we hope you will understand the seriousness with which we are taking the health and safety of our employees, guests and the local community that lives in Kalopanayiotis. Please note that the above measures are constantly being updated in line with directives from the Cyprus Ministry of Health, and may be subject to change at any time.
